HURRICANE FLORENCE: Tracking the Path

We continue to monitor Hurricane Florence. Recent tracking models indicate Florence will most likely make landfall in the Carolinas Friday. We should expect some degree of wind, rain, and surge in our region. In addition to Florence, the Atlantic Ocean is active with different storms this time of year and it is recommended you visit your boat and make some preparations.

Tips for preparing for a storm include:
     - Double up lines so they are adjustable from the dock.
     - Add extra lines to multiple points on your boat leaving some slack.
     - Remove loose items that are topside.
     - Make sure batteries are charged and bilge pumps work properly.

In the case of a storm tracking directly toward us:
     - Remove biminis and dodgers.
     - Remove headsails.

Rockhold and Traceys Creeks are well protected waterways that allow for very limited fetch and wave action conditions. Because wave action is what primarily can result in damage, we are fortunate that wave action is a limited threat to us at Shipwright, absent a direct hit. Properly tying the boat should allow for it to ride a surge and sit securely in your slip. We are available to help you with your lines. Please give us a call, we're here to help you.
