Hurricane Irma is making landfall in Florida and is projected to track Northwest through the southeastern states. It is likely we will be impacted by rain and some degree of winds in the middle of next week. While we do not expect any threatening weather conditions in the Chesapeake region from this storm, we are in the peak of hurricane season and its worthwhile to be familiar with the type of preparations necessary in the event a future storm tracks closer.
Notable tips for preparing your boat for a hurricane include:
- Ensure batteries are charged and bilge pumps work properly.
- Remove loose articles on deck and any personal items on the dock around your slip.
- Check lines, double up and leave slack.
- Remove as much canvas as possible including furled sails and biminis.
