The Point : Shipwright Harbor Marina News and Happenings Issue No. 23

Issue No. 23

Our Homeport

It has been 16 months since we began operating Shipwright Harbor and I wish to take a moment to reflect on this short, busy, and really fun period. On behalf of our staff, it is such a pleasure to work with this vibrant boating community. Our role is to provide safe and appealing grounds, facilities and docks as well as nurture a platform for this community to gather and socialize. And boy oh boy! This community sure does take it from there with frequent and festive parties and activities. It really is you, the slipholders who make this boating community special.

On our end, it’s been busy! In February of 2017, we got right to work. Safety was our first priority so we replaced all hardware and a lot of deck boards on the docks. We opened every electric box and panel, made repairs and turned on all the lights. Then we dredged a significant amount of cubic yardage from the marina basin. Next were some initial beautifications. We paved the entrance road, cleaned up a boatyard full of boats, painted the buildings, added landscaping and paver walkways, and replaced the pool fence and furniture. Trash facilities were relocated, high speed wifi with a live webcam was installed, some parties were scheduled and we were off and running for the first season.

On the back end, a new mechanical contractor, new website, new logo, new database, new accounting system, and all new administrative and organizational procedures were implemented including consistent slip periods (April 1 – March 31) and how and when the yard is used for boat storage.

Prior to our second season, the bathhouse was renovated, parking lot expanded, additional landscaping and pavers established, a new dockbar and storage lockers placed, complimentary bikes and kayaks with a dedicated kayak dock made available, dinghy ramp and dock installed, and finally swinging chairs and a big fire pit were placed on The Point.

With a clean platform created and Free Beer Fridays commencing, again, this wonderful community of slipholders takes it to the next level. With a season chock full of events, and many talented cooks really putting the cherry on top, Shipwright Harbor sure is a fun and vibrant, tranquil and peaceful homeport. We respectfully request that you tell your boating friends, family, and colleagues about us, and liberally post reviews about your experience here.
Our work is not finished but we’re proud of the present state of the marina and ready to enjoy the summer.

Thank you,

Jed Dickman
General Manager
