I can remember pulling into Shipwright in January 2 years ago. I had just been offered a full time position with Herrington after working there as a dockhand for 8 years. I walked around Shipwright having just learned of the acquisition that was set to take place in a month's time. There were boats stacked 3 deep on the hard, there were cracked boards on the docks, and the bitter cold seemed to match the neglect Shipwright had endured for some time. But the faces of the slipholders were friendly, the layout was intimate and unique, and standing at the end of the Point, looking out to the Bay with the sun setting to my right, I knew Shipwright was where I wanted to be. Shipwright was what I wanted to be a part of.
And so for the past two years I have watched, facilitated, and been gleefully a part of the wonderful transformation these grounds have seen. Moreso I've come to know you - the most vibrant, friendly, fun, funny, cheeky, kind, and awesome boating community on the Chesapeake. And so, it is bittersweet that I am writing to you today to say somewhat of a goodbye.
I have been unexpectedly offered a job in a field I'm interested in, a very non-boating, Free Beer Friday-less, uniformed job, that I am actually excited to venture forth in. And so as of April 1st you won't see me on site at Shipwright. However, after 10 combined years at these Herring Bay marinas, and a blood-oath I technically can't break (they don't tell you that's a part of the package once you hit 10 years when you start as a lowly dockhand...), I am happy to say I will still be facilitating the marketing efforts of Shipwright for an indefinite amount of time.
So, never fear, the website, advertising, social media management, and the message that Shipwright Harbor Marina boasts the best facilities, staff, parties, and boaters on the Bay, will still be in my hands for at least a while longer. And I just might have to stop by for a party or two cause WOW the lineup is killer this year - scroll for the full list!!!
Always,
